Entry requirements: No formal prior qualification is required. Learners should be able to work at Level 4, read workplace documents, reflect on organisational examples and complete short applied written tasks. Experience of management, administration, committee support or organisational decision-making is helpful but not essential.
Purpose: This practical entry-level award introduces the essential language, duties and behaviours of effective board governance. Learners explore how boards provide direction, oversight, accountability and stewardship, and how good governance improves decision-making, risk awareness and organisational confidence. The qualification is designed to be immediately useful for people who support, advise or aspire to sit on boards, particularly in SMEs, charities, education providers, professional services and growing organisations. Learners leave with a clear understanding of board purpose, director responsibilities, governance documentation and the practical routines that help boards operate with confidence.
