Principles of Risk and Assurance

Assessment method: Short written tasks and applied risk assurance exercise.

Purpose: This module explains how risk, assurance and internal control support good governance. Learners examine risk identification, risk appetite, control design, assurance mapping and escalation. The module helps learners understand how boards and managers gain confidence that important risks are understood, controls are working and gaps are being acted upon.

Evidence requirements: Learners submit a short risk register extract, a simple assurance map, responses to applied questions and a brief explanation of how assurance evidence supports board or management oversight.
